INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES
Every school should have Bikeability on its curriculum. It is the only official road safety awareness course children will receive in their entire school careers. It gives children the tools to travel independently throughout their adolescent life, which can be an asset to both their mental and physical health. Bikeability also has the potential to reduce the congestion at the school gates and to reduce general road congestion in the long term, as children will be inspired to choose a sustainable means of transport over the coming years.
For schools we offer Bikeability Level 1 Courses for Years 3 and 4,
Bikeability Level 2 Courses for Years 5 and 6 and various After School Bike Clubs (leisure rides for those who have completed Bikeability Level 2 or sessions for those who can't ride without stabilisers). We can also run bespoke Family Leisure Rides. In learning communities where Bikeability is well established we also run Weekend Bike Clubs and other cycling events.
Information for schools
Bikeability funding varies per area and can be very diffuse. Most funding for the well-known Bikeability Level 2 training for Years 5 and 6 is provided by the Department of Transport who channels this funding via the Youth Sports Trust, School Sports Partnerships or a council body. Some regions are very well served through this system, others aren’t. Our co-operative either delivers Bikeability training at schools on behalf of the organisations above or on behalf of the school. In the latter the school can provide funding itself (for example as part of the School Travel Plan) or courses are delivered via (part-) funding from parents.
Information for local authorities
Are you a local authority, school sports partnership or any other professional body with funding available for cycle training? Great; we can offer you a "one stop shop" for the delivery!
We have a network of passionate and dedicated cycling instructors available across the West Country and have all the relevant health and safety regulations in place to be able to deliver cycle training. We not only offer great value for money (as all essential administration will be carried out by us), but also have the know-how of how to run additional add-ons to inspire people to get on bikes.
